DFS has been developed to allow the National Grid Electricity System Operator (NGSO) to access additional flexibility when the national demand is at its highest – during peak winter days – which is not currently accessible to the NGESO in real time. This new innovative service will allow residential consumers, as well as some industrial and commercial users via VpowerU, to be incentivised for voluntarily flexing the time when they use their electricity.
All you need is a working smart meter to join and opt in for half-hourly meter reads.
You’ll receive an email notification the day before informing you the timings for the DFS event.
We dont know exactly when but highly likely during ‘peak’ time which is usually between 4-7pm.
No, it's entirely up to you. Of course we'd encourage you to take part in as many events as you can.
We’ll calculate what you usually use at that time of day, on average using historical meter reading data. We'll then use half-hourly averages as a benchmark for every kilowatt hour vs actual consumption during DFS event to calculate your demand reduction volume.
VpowerU has a competitive reward scheme in place for prosumers participating in Demand Flexibility Service. For additional details please email firstname.lastname@example.org
